Vote for "The Wildwood Flower"

https://www.missionsmallbusiness.com/#.T-fIjYclp2w.facebook

We're trying to win a grant for our store, "The Wildwood Flower" and we could really use your help. We need 250 votes for our grant proposal to be considered. It could really make an amazing difference for our store. We could add in a concert hall and gallery space that could also be used for community workshops, as well as fix an ancient heating system and many of the other problems that go hand and hand with an old building.

Go to the link above and click on the blue button that says "login and support". You can login using Facebook. Type in "The Wildwood Flower" under business name or "Rochester, VT" under state and town and then hit "support" to vote. You can support more than one business so if you see this and enter your own business, please support ours too!

Jake Sawyer and Huckleberry Oon'

Sorry to disappear for a bit. That river of life just keeps moving me along. And it's been one of those weeks that was just plain hell, and there's no better way to put it... sickness, numerous doctor's visits and tests, a sore throat on top of other sickness, and for good measure, poison ivy all over my hands. And we had to miss a trip to the science museum with friends. But this weekend has restored the balance a bit. The blasted heat finally let up. The sandbox is nearly finished. (It could still use some more bags of sand, but we've enjoyed it anyways.) I am hopefully on the mend... at least the fever and nausea from earlier in the week are gone. And really, Mr. Jake and Miss Oona are as always, keeping things light and fluffy. We've been splashing in Oona's tiny kiddy pool and dipping our toes in the sand. This evening we enjoyed the first summer concert in the park. It was a marching band and Oona was marching and hopping right along with the music. She was also making the rounds inviting herself onto the picnic blankets of friendly faces. I'm looking forward to more of these outings, and with any luck, some good health too!

Good health to any readers I have left out there!

P.S. Comfrey works wonders on poison ivy!

Handmade Dress

I've been meaning to make this dress for a while, and finally found the perfect excuse... a wedding! This weekend were off to an old college friends wedding, and as there was nothing in my closet that was particularly enticing for this special occasion, I got out the scissors and sewing machine and set to work. Okay, it took way longer than expected... maybe a week and a half of broken minutes here and there, but nothing ever gets done as expected with my wild babe running around. I'm just glad I gave myself extra time before the wedding to do it. I think it's pretty fun... I'm a little worried it makes me look wider than I am, but I usually feel a little self-conscious in dresses.

I got to use some Anna Maria Horner fabric called "Baby Bouquet" that I got on clearance a while back and have been hoarding for just such a project. It's super soft and almost silky feeling material. I love it! The pattern is " New Look" #6887: style D w/ sleeves from A. The pattern looks relatively simple, but there were a few complicated parts of the construction that slowed me down a bit having to do with the inner placket. Pattern reading is one of my least favorite parts about sewing. It feels much more natural when I construct things from scratch because then I don't have to stumble through someone else's confusing instructions and construction methods. But I'm hoping that by using patterns for sewing clothes I'll get more a knack for designing my own clothing patterns and then I'll be able to make all sorts of wacky things. Muhahahah!

June Rock Welcome

("Skunk Traipses through the Flowers" from 2012 Rock Art Calendar by Bonnie Wildwood)

Howdy June with your flowers in bloom! I'm looking forward to fireflies, more play days on the park, a camping trip with friends, flea markets, and feet in rivers. I hope you're enjoying this time when everything is springing to life and bouncing around in beautiful rainbow ball gowns.
