There's nothing like a bucket of water to splash around in. Babies really know how to enjoy the simple things! I've been trying to make my life more balanced lately... which means, lots more playing! Ha. I love being able to get outside. I made some big progress on the garden today. We have a whole patch for corn this year. Hope the bugs and raccoons don't destroy it. I've probably been doing a little too much philosophizing in my head lately. Sometimes it's good to stop and rethink everything. I've also been digging into a lot of parenting books lately. Maybe I'll share some of what I've been reading soon. It's funny, when I was pregnant, I never felt the need to read a parenting book because I felt like it would just all be intuitive. And much of it very much is! But there are always different aspects to consider, especially when certain assumptions you've made about parenting aren't working out in practice. Mostly, I just want to learn how to help her learn and grow better. I think we're doing okay for first timers, but there's always room to blossom. I'm so grateful for the support of all the mama's I know, young and old. Papa's sometimes have a bit of wisdom to share too, but the circle of motherhood is so important to nourishing our children. Woo! Sorry, too much fresh air today!

Flowers and Moth

Thinking About:
-Baby pools and sandboxes
- My parents being married 36 years today! Happy Anniversary!
- Sitting by the river
- Sewing myself a new dress for an upcoming wedding
- Painting rocks
- Planting corn and cucumbers
- Taking a nap
- What we're going to eat this week

Minature Paintings

The hours seem to drift away so sleepily these days in the yard, pulling weeds from the garden, chasing my little Bo Peep around, sneaking in a little reading, eating, thinking. I feel I haven't done much making these days. It took me many broken days to complete these very tiny paintings for Mother's Day gifts. I don't know why it took so long, it just did. Perhaps there is some making in my future. We'll see.

Grandparents, Bonfires and Fleamarkets

My, my, we have been busy! Last week, Jake's Dad came for a visit. He lives in New Mexico so we don't get to see him very often. He stayed for the week and on the weekend, my parents joined in the fun. Grandparents can really wear you out! I am dog tired, as they say. (just kidding, mom)

We went on a canoe ride, had our first barbeque on our first grill (veggie style), hit the first farmer's market of the season, took everyone for an incredible bonfire in the woods with music and strawberries and silvery stars, and visited a flea market in NH at the Quechee Antique Mall.

Oona was so very glad to see all her grandparents. I know she's going to go through grandparent withdrawal this week... they spoil her so. Back to the daily grind.

P.S. Oona said " I wuv you" to me at the campfire... I think she's said it before, but not quite as clearly... my heart melts for that little sprout.

Mother Goose

I hope all you mama's out there had a lovely Mother's Day weekend! Our Sundays are work days, but we took some time in the morning to visit a flea market and stop by a favorite waterfall on the way home. Jake also watched Oona so I could have a lunch with a local mama friend. That was a blast! I love being with my babe, but some times an afternoon off is good medicine. These young ones can wear you out making you run circles and jump hoops and race strollers.

Mother's Day was a good reminder for me to stop and think about what kind of mama I want to be. I often feel torn between my role as a mother and my creative pursuits. I think I can definitely have both, I just have to accept that things won't always get done as fast as I would like. And sometimes it's necessary to stop and smell the puff balls.

All the Sweetness to You!

Look at what a lucky girl I am! One of my dear best friends sent me these delicious looking cupcakes for Mother's Day! The pretty flowers were picked for me by Mr. Jake earlier in the week. I hope all you Mama's out there have a mother's day filled with all the sweetness in the world!

New Mint Eye Pillows

Quick update: I have some new peppermint and butterfly eye pillows in the shop! Have a look!

P.S. Jake and I had hot chocolate and cinnamon toast for lunch... yes, we are five years old!

We collected some fiddlehead ferns today... a May delicacy around these parts. I must confess, I enjoy looking at them and picking them more than eating them, but fried up with butter they're not half bad. They taste kind of like asparagus to me. Jake won't even touch the things. Actually, Oona didn't eat any either for that matter....

Anyone have a fiddlehead recipe that might make these furled up ferns a little more appealing?

May Dance

Happy May Day! I'm sure the wood nymphs and sprites are dancing despite the rain. I've heard tell of warm weather coming our way... maybe it will take away the winter sickness and put a hop skip in our steps.

Looking forward to:
- getting more of the garden planted
- hanging out on the porch
- building a sandbox for the babe
- a June wedding
- drafting some new Spring patterns
- finding some more river rocks to paint on
- pansies
