Happy Easter!

Hope everyone has a lovely Easter weekend with friends and family! We are so excited for Oona's first Easter and introducing her to some of the family that she hasn't had the opportunity to meet yet. She'll also be turning five months old on Easter day! Wow, nearly to the half year mark!

Hip Hop Hoo! A beautiful Easter to you!

Needle felted Soap

Yesterday I found a little time while Oona was napping to needle felt some soap. This was suppose to be a Christmas project, but turned into an Easter project for lack of time. I used the lovely wool that I get at our local farmer's market and the soap is VT Soap Company organic bars in various scents.

Here are a few good links on the process:

Little Birdie Secrets Wool Felted Soap

Frugal Kiwi's Hand Felted Soap

I found the bamboo mat method worked pretty good for agitation... I also tried to do the panty hose method, but found that a little harder to keep the designs nice, so I switched back to doing it without. Happy weekend!

Crochet Ball

The Easter bunny called in another favor and had me make this here ball for Oona. I thought it would be super quick to make, but I ran into some problems when the second half of the ball turned out flat... You were suppose to join two identical halves, but something went terribly wrong and my halves were far from identical. I must have picked up an extra stitch somewhere which changed the whole pattern. So I improvised, and working backwards made the ball all in one piece working from the middle of the first half that I had done correctly... cute, but frustrating...

Here's a link to the pattern: Crochet Ball
You can also make a solid ball.

I'm really wishing I knew how to knit. Have a look at all these cute free knit children's patterns over at Petite Purl:
Nova Dress
Cloverfield Sweater

There are more under the "patterns" and "archive" sections at the top of the page. Super cute! My little bunny is growing like a forest! I have too many cute things I want to make for her, but there's just not enough time. Sigh!

Weekend with Grandma and Grandpa Gnome

I just wanted to pop in again and post some of the highlights from the weekend. My folks came to visit and there was much fun had with the grandbaby. Jake put the hammock up on our porch and Oona enjoyed her first hammock ride and hammock nap.

Finally enough snow melted that we could take Oona down to the river across the street. I think she was quite entranced.

I'm so in love with being outside again and sharing it with the little one. We had a nice walk with Grandma and Grandpa and Oona got a ride on our birch bark reindeer afterward.

And of course there was much jumping and cuddling to be had by all.

And music...

And tights on the head... I'll be posting some crafts soon... hope everyone had a nice weekend with nice weather too!

Spring Cleaning and Projects

Sorry I've been missing for a while. We've been doing a big overhaul of our downstairs... living room, kitchen, bathroom and mudroom and it's been taking up a lot of time. We moved this desk from the mudroom where it was mostly just used to pile things to the living room where it will find much more use for business and paying bills and writing letters and working on crafts. I'm so happy it's finally in a place that makes sense. The little shelf on top is made from an old crate and is great for mail and misc. other whatnots.

In the bathroom, Jake just refinished this old medicine cabinet that my parents so kindly gave to us. We found a funky knob at this little shop we like to visit in downtown Middlebury, Bella Donna. The cabinet is much needed as sooner or later Miss Oona will be getting into things.

We've also had some outdoor projects. Jake built this beautiful little green house for the plants I've been growing out of old windows. I love that it will be easy to move when we move out of this place. I'm looking forward to expanding the garden this year.

Oona is enjoying spending more time outdoors. We try to get in a walk when the weather is good. I can't wait until we can roll around in the grass with her! I'm going to post some highlights from our weekend later today so stay tuned!
