Stripes and Bells

Hello good folks! These stripey eye pillows were sewn up today and our now in the shop. They have the same backing fabric as the buckwheat hull pillow I showed you recently which is thick and has an oh-so-lovely texture. And, as you can see, I managed to use some of those new fabrics I showed you the other day.

Terrapin is sleeping on my ironing board...tsk, tsk. The river is rushing by outside, not even caring that I'm just sitting here unable to keep up for a second. But soon there will be coffee, Mr.Jake has foretold, and the shop will be closed, and perhaps we'll take a quick walk outside.

And there is also this lovely farm house I wanted to share with you. This will very likely be the location for our wedding this Autumn. (No, we're not already married, but it's about time isn't it? Haha.) I think it's just the old-timey middle of nowhere kind of location we were looking for and there's even llamas and ponies next door. So we are both very excited to finally be able to start planning this shindig, as it's been on hold since we moved. Get ready for lots of wedding crafts!

Spring is here!

Happy Spring! It doesn't feel much like it today, but there are little signs that warmer days are nearing. I've spied tiny specks of green in the yard and after a few lovely porch sitting days last week, much of the snow has melted. I've been terribly unproductive lately, a bit of sickness mixed with a bit of too much daydreaming and an addiction to watching murder mysteries with Belgian detectives leads to not getting much done. So no new projects to show. But we did find a little quilt shop on the way back from some errands earlier this week, and I picked up some fabric supplies. Hopefully they will give me the inspiration to start a new sewing project.

And this has nothing to do with anything, but I think Terrapin has found a new hiding place in the cupboard. He's already all too familiar with the lower kitchen cabinets, but now he's managed to find his way to the upper level.

Lavender and Buckwheat Hull Pillow

Here's the latest thing I've been working on. I've been trying to stay off of the computer because of my eye problems, but I'll pop in again this week with more pictures of projects. The pillow is here in the shop.

She Sells Seashells

I finally, after months of staring at them longingly, opened my casein paints to give them a whirl. There's something a little terrifying for me about trying a new material. Will I like it better than my old stand by? Will I become a traitor to what I know? Will I be awful at it? Oh, but it's so fun too... a little bit like solving a mystery. They are what I expected and not what I expected. I did some doodling on these seashells from my Rhode Island days. I have a huge stockpile of seashells, telling myself one day I'd find a use for them. And voila! Well, I like this casein stuff, though it doesn't smell quite as lovely as gouache. The colors are more vibrant... perhaps too vibrant, but maybe I just need to learn to mix them better. I'm looking forward to trying them out on wood.

Ah, and speaking of mysteries, Jake and I are addicted to watching the Poirot Mysteries on YouTube that used to air on the BBC. I never use to like detective stories until we started watching and reading Sherlock Holmes. And now I'm walking around the house solving butter and toast crumb crimes.

Warning! If you start watching, you will get hooked! (There are more episodes on the persons YouTube channel)

I just wanted to share with you today the project of artist Jess Gonacha, a blog called Pecannoot. Jess features artists who are sending out some good vibes into the world through their art, focusing on the theme of abundance, and also shares many of her own illustrations. She was kind enough to feature my Spring mandala last Thursday. Thanks Jess and may we all have an abundance of good thing in our lives.
