Another bear is born! This one is stuffed with lavender and buckwheat hulls. And if anyone was wondering, Jake named his bear "Pancake Pan-A-Cake" (but we just call him Pancake around here). This new one will be in the shop sometime soon.

Life certainly feels full these days. There's been lots of planning, lots of daydreaming, and lots of gathering. Jake and I were both sort of feeling a mid-winter funk, but it seems to have lifted as of late. Not sure why... maybe just knowing the snowy days will soon have to give way to Spring. I'm feeling very positive about many things and hoping a hell of a lot. We had a beautiful day today on our weekly grocery expedition. I love how small VT always feel, as if you know everyone in the whole state. I dragged Jake around downtown and found a few odds and ends... some pretty yellow napkins and that delightful aqua ribbon pictured above and the fun little trivet you see below. I have a little coriander plant planted in there that has not yet grown to see the sun.
And this evening, after enjoying a terrific dinner of pasta and homemade tomato sauce with ukulele music, I looked around our surroundings and felt very grateful for all the color in our life. Lots of plants, brightly colored rooms, silly paintings, lovely people and kitties to share it with. Yes, I do feel very hopeful these days. Sometimes you just have to turn your head around and the world looks a whole lot different than it did the day before.
And here is something awesome that I wanted to share with you before I go watch a detective show with Jake, Septembear's Rosemary Bread. I baked it the other day, and it is very delicious, and not very difficult, as far as bread making goes. You can find the recipe here. Enjoy!

This here patchwork bear is a little project I just finished for Jake... a belated Valentine's gift.
He's is stuffed with little bitty fabric scraps that I save for just such an occasion. He even has some yarn and thread scraps thrown in for good measure.
I was inspired by this little brown bear my mom made for my dad once upon a time. Here they are together, the best of friends!

I hope you're having a lovely day celebrating love! These are some delicious plain scones that I made yesterday and disappeared all too quickly. Thank you all so very much who entered my Valentine's Day Give Away. I chose the winner by the very scientific method of writing your names on a piece of paper, folding them in half, and then shaking them up in my hand and letting one drop on the table. Congratulations Candice! You are the lucky winner. You can e-mail me your address at email@example.com so I can send you your prize package. Candice shared her love of the smell of Spring, and I couldn't agree more. There's nothing like it after a long, cold winter! Thank all three of you for sharing with me something you loved. I enjoyed all of it!
To those that didn't win, don't be disheartened. I plan to have many more of these little give aways so check back, and hopefully at least a few more people will enter. I'll try to give more warning in the future, too.
Happy Valentine's Day!

I made this mandala to ask the universe for a little bit of growth and prosperity. I'm calling it "A Call to Spring". It feels good to be painting again. All these ideas started coming to the surface as soon as I picked up a paint brush. I hope to keep up with the ideas and not have them getting dusty on some back shelf somewhere as they did last year.
Oh, and I also made this new design for my eye pillows. Expect to see lots of patchwork and paintings in 2009. This one is over in the shop.

Well, my doves, I've been wanting to do a give away for a while, but haven't had the time to make something for it. As luck would have it, this lovely headband you see below is slightly imperfect... I accidentally made a very tiny tear in the fabric with my seam ripper. It's still perfectly fine to wear and hardly noticeable but I don't want to sell it, so I thought one of you might enjoy it. So what better way to warm your head and your heart this chilly February than a give away! And I'll also throw in a couple more little surprises.
To enter, all you have to do is share with me something you love. Yes, "love" is the word. It can be a photo, a recipe, a poem, a quote, a story, anything! I'll choose one lucky ducky winner on Saturday, February 14th at 12 noon. Please tell all your friends. Everyone is welcome to enter!

Well, I'm not sure if that ol' groundhog saw his shadow, but I'm doing everything in my power to bring Spring sooner than later. This morning I did a bit of Spring cleaning in the store... a bit more is still needed, but all in good time. I'm also going to start some basil seeds today. I want to have a ton of basil this year, as it's my all time favorite herb and you can never have enough. I can't wait to make pesto.
Speaking of food... here is a very delicious sandwich that Jake and I shared the other day at our local cafe. Take a some apple slices, cheddar, fresh spinach and onion and bread of your choice. Amazing! We liked it so much we made it again today at home. I don't think you can go wrong with apples and cheddar. It's just too good.
